"Where do you start when it seems like it's all on fire?"
Parenting in today’s world is not for the faint of heart. We have an entire generation questioning whether they even want to go through with raising children, and I suspect that will worsen before it gets any better. We have an entire generation of young adults now who have grown up feeling like they’re an inconvenience from the words and distance of overwhelmed parents struggling with dual incomes, marital or relational struggles, generational trauma, and the pressure to keep up with the Jones’s.
What kind of example are we setting for our kids? What kind of world are we handing to the next generation? What kind of digital footprint are we leaving for our kids to find?
You want to teach your children to lean into their strengths, to pursue their passions and talents, to go after their dreams, to follow their hearts, to have confidence in themselves, and to maintain their self-worth and their dignity. You want to empower them to believe they are capable of achieving anything they set out to do – that they can build a life that brings them joy, love, laughter, excitement, success, abundance and peace.
But how can you teach your kids to pursue their dreams if you aren’t living yours?
How can we teach our kids anything is possible for them while we settle for this overwhelming daily grind? How can we break those unhelpful thinking patterns and the ties that bind us? The act of parenting shines a light on our own actions and attitudes in a way nothing else does. We must model what we want for them. We must find a better way. We must genuinely live out what we preach to them if we want them to believe anything we say.
This is not a parenting book. But it is a book for parents. In these pages, I am sharing practical action steps I've learned that have brought balance and joy to my life as a self-employed, widowed, full-time single mother of two. These habits and mindset hacks have afforded me the opportunity to build my business while homeschooling my kids, keeping my home a sanctuary of trust and connection, training for competitive sport, travelling and pursuing new adventures.
I wrote this short book because I don't want you to have to suffer tragedy before putting the most important things first in your own life. I don’t want you to have to make some of the same massive mistakes I did, and I want you to see that it IS possible to find the balance you’re yearning for even during the parenting years. More than anything, I want to help create a world where parents find their way to carving out more time, money, and energy for what matters most so that the next generation of young people grow up feeling empowered, cherished, and worthy of unconditional love and support.
